Volunteer Spotlight: Packing With Heart, Deep In The Heart Of Texas!

August 21, 2025

Days of relevance tend to shine brightly! Before I comment on that statement, allow me to expand.

I received a call early in the year (3 years ago) from my colleague and friend, Ken, about a project that he was passionate about, and he wanted me to join him.

It was a very specific weekday, and the purpose was to pack meals for those in need. I asked a couple of questions, such as location, time, who the non-profit is, and what is entailed.

Ken had all the answers, and it became very clear… I was going to take a day off from work to join Ken and do this “meal packing” day! Man, I am glad that I said yes.

The date was my biggest reservation…. it happened to be the anniversary of my father’s passing (day of relevance). However, that’s what made it even more special.

My father had a favorite day each year as well. He packed meals for those in need with a local community club he was a part of for many years. I understood why, as I reflected on the day of “meal packing” with Ken and the whole crew from ‘Meals from the Heart’!

Another trip around the sun, and that call came in from Ken – “Here is the date, same location, see you there!” I like to call that the assumptive close!
I was sold before I even had a chance to say no.

Now, in the second year, the packing date was another significant day of relevance. This time it fell on my Grandfathers birthday. He was also a part of the club that my father was passionate about. He, too, always enjoyed the “meal packing” day with that club. I left the day with Ken & crew feeling immense joy, again!

There was no need for any discussion after that second year of “meal packing” with ‘Meals from the Heart’ as I was the one asking, “When and where?” for the following year.

All this to be said – days of relevance shine brightly! I am reminded every year of the impact that ‘Meals from the Heart’ can provide to local communities and those in need.

Three years and counting; forever will be a day that is blocked on my calendar for their mission. I have learned a lot in life – from my Father and Grandfather, as well as the crew at ‘Meals from the Heart’! Giving is the greatest gift that one’s inner self can receive. The team at ‘Meals from the Heart’ is passionate about their “WHY,” and it becomes infectious within minutes of being around them while contributing with time and care.

Meal packing days are far more than just a day! They are a day of relevance!
