Meals From The Heart

This Year Marked Out 10th Anniversary Of Packing Meals With The Long Island Lutheran Middle and High Schools!

Wow! It’s hard to believe, we’ve been packing for a decade with our friends from the Long Island Lutheran Middle and High Schools (LuHi). This past October marked the tenth year when over 800 volunteers, including the entire student body, faculty, and staff, packed over 197,000 meals that were delivered to Island Harvest and local pantries. These meals helped individuals and families on Long Island struggling with food insecurity as we all continue to navigate this pandemic.

The folks from Meals From The Heart first made the trip out East to LuHi in 2011 when they hosted their inaugural meal-packing event. Each year since then, students, faculty and staff, with the help of local schools, and community groups packed meals destined for Long Island food pantries, the Andrew Grene School in Haiti, and other countries with food insecurity. This year all of the meals were distributed locally to Island Harvest, Council of Churches, Take Me Out to the Ball Game, and a number of smaller church-run pantries in the area.

We are thrilled to announce that together with Meals From The Heart, LuHi has packed over 2,900,000 meals… so far! We look forward to next year when LuHi’s grand total will be sure to eclipse 3 million meals!

Thanks to LuHi for sharing a few awesome pictures of the teams hard at work (and having tons of fun) while they serve their neighbors.
