LuHi Hits 3 Million Meals!

June 12, 2023

Long Island Lutheran High School (LuHi) hosted its first meal-packing event with Meals From The Heart in 2011. Since then, just about every year LuHi students, faculty, and staff, with the help of other local schools, community groups, and association congregations, packed about 300,000 meals, many of which went directly to food shelves and food pantries in Long Island.

Meals From The Heart and LuHi reached a monumental milestone this spring – 3 million meals packed! Over 800 volunteers, including LuHi’s entire student body, faculty, and staff, packed over 163,000 meals to help hit that incredible mark in March. Meals packed this year were delivered to Island Harvest and local pantries to help their neighbors on Long Island struggling with food insecurity.

Like all Meals From The Heart events, the participants received much more than they gave.

This quote from one of the 2023 student meal packers summed it up nicely.

“…I had the pleasure of participating in LuHi’s Meal Packing Event for the first time. During this time, I learned how to work with others I may not have even known before to achieve a common goal—to provide meals to families less fortunate than us and to do our part to make a difference in the lives of others. LuHi may be a small school, but what we lack in size, we more than make up for with our faith and passion for serving!”
